Question: Do you know when the tournament will end?
Answer: While we can give you a general idea of when the tournament has ended in past years, there is no way to give a definite ending time because we want everyone who competes to have the chance to have fun and show us what they can do. However, in past years we have started the tournament around 10:00am and were able to wrap things up between 2:00pm - 4:00pm. Again, there are no guarantees though -- especially if we have a higher number of competitors than expected.
Question: Do you know when I (or my kid) will be called to the floor for an event?
Answer: We call competitor groups by gender, rank, and general age. (child vs adult) The list below shows the order of events that will be performed at the tournament. Generally, we have called children first and then adults for each event. This should be used as a guideline as to when a competitor may be called during the course of the day. There is no defined time slot for each event because such a planning initiative is not practical. However, we are currently planning on the following order of events:
Question: When is lunch and where do we eat?
Answer: You can eat anytime you wish IN THE CAFETERIA AREA at the entrance to the gym. Note: No food in the gym. Only water allowed in the gym. Juices, sodas, sports drinks, etc. must be consumed out in the cafeteria. This is a facility rule and we should all honor it.
We are planning on having on-site lunch items for sale as we have done in past years (provided by Prime Minister Catering), but you are welcome to bring your own lunch as you like.
Important - When you choose to eat lunch, please make sure that you (or your child) is not competing in a currently-running event or they will run the risk of missing their turn. Keep listening for calls for particular competitions and their brackets.
Note: Consider a "light" meal if you will be competing right after lunchtime. There's nothing much worse than having to free-spar right after over-eating at lunch.
Question: TEAM PATTERNS -- If we do not pre-register for Team Patterns, what happens if we don't know if we'll have a Team Pattern group together or not on the day of the tournament?
Answer: Team pattern groups can be formed in the morning during check-in and up to 11:00am. You do not have to have them pre-registered. While most groups already know they will be competing before the tournament, some choose to wait until that morning because they are not sure who will be coming or how many people will be in their group. In addition, some groups are made up from members of more than one school, so they decide to form a team at check-in.
If you register a Team Pattern group after check-in, you must make sure the team registration paper is delivered to either the Chief Bracketer or the Tournament Director. If this is not done, you may be missed, as has happened in the past when people just leave the paper on a table somewhere and expect us to magically find it. Those registration papers are what we use to bracket Team Patterns, so make sure you get them to the right people.
Teams that are added at-the-door and up to 11:00am should also supply the team registration payment at that time for the competitors involved. See the Registration Page for pricing.
Question: Can I pay with a credit card?
Answer: At this time, we do not use a credit card system because we still need the registration forms including signatures for the waiver that appears on the document, as well as signed permission for minors.
Question: Can I get my money back if my kid [or others] are sick or otherwise have to cancel our registration?
Answer: Yes. We understand that sometimes life doesn't agree with our plans. If such a problem should occur, get in touch with us via our "GET HELP" page and we will gladly send you a refund. We will confirm your request by phone and/or email and then mail a check to you directly, or return your check if it has not been cashed yet.
